Primary Reference / Psychological Conditions Behind Seeking / Loss

Loss:

—————————

Loss occurs when something that was present is no longer present.

What is lost may have provided psychological satisfaction.

Its absence may therefore create a new condition of dissatisfaction.

Seeking can then arise in response to the loss.

Seeking may move toward recovering what was lost.

It may move toward replacing what was lost.

It may move toward restoring the psychological satisfaction associated with what was lost.

The object of seeking may change even when what is being sought psychologically remains similar.

Recognizing this structure clarifies why loss can redirect seeking toward something new without necessarily changing the condition expected from it.
