Belief and Clarity:
———————
Belief and clarity are not the same.
Belief accepts a view as true on the basis of trust, tradition, or authority. It may provide orientation, meaning, or reassurance. Clarity arises when a mistaken view is examined and seen for what it is.
Confusion arises when belief is taken to ensure clarity. Religious belief, philosophical belief, or spiritual belief can coexist with misunderstanding. Belief can shape conduct and intention, but it does not resolve ignorance.
This does not make belief an obstacle. Belief can support discipline, humility, and inquiry. Its limitation lies in what it cannot do. Belief does not verify understanding.
Recognizing the difference between belief and clarity preserves the value of belief without mistaking it for insight. Belief may guide life; clarity resolves misunderstanding through direct seeing.
