Liberation:
—————————
Liberation is often understood as freedom from a condition of bondage.
The nature of bondage therefore determines what liberation means.
If bondage is assumed to arise from circumstance, liberation appears to require a change in circumstance.
If bondage is assumed to arise from experience, liberation appears to require a change in experience.
Spiritual inquiry examines the basis upon which the seeker appears bound.
Liberation then concerns not merely the removal of an undesirable condition, but the understanding of what makes that condition appear as bondage.
Recognizing this structure clarifies why liberation cannot be understood without first examining the nature of the bondage from which liberation is sought.
