Clarity Reference / Inquiry, Seeking, and Effort / The Structure of Seeking

The Structure of Seeking:

———————

Seeking follows a recognizable structure.

It begins with the assumption that clarity is absent. From this assumption arises movement — effort, inquiry, practice, or accumulation — directed toward a future resolution. Time and progress become central to this structure.

This structure sustains itself because each act of seeking confirms the original assumption. The very effort to arrive reinforces the sense of distance from what is sought. Seeking continues, not because of failure, but because its premise remains unquestioned.

The issue is not movement or effort, but the assumption that something essential is missing. As long as this assumption operates, seeking appears necessary and reasonable.

Inquiry becomes effective when it turns toward this structure itself. When the premise of absence is examined and seen clearly, the structure of seeking loosens, and the need to continue dissolves without resistance.
